We've seen some unusual uses of cardboard before but this time Lexus has perhaps trumped everything else though, by building a full-size, drivable cardboard car. The Origami Car: a life-size version of the Lexus IS Sedan.
To celebrate the takumi (and that origami kitty), Lexus
engaged a team of five designers and modellers from UK-based LaserCut
Works and Scales and Models, supported by the packaging-material
maker DS Smith, to build the Origami Car, a full-size,
almost-fully-functional replica of the IS sport sedan.
Yes, the cardboard IS is more than just the box it came in:
It's a driveable electric car.
The cardboard IS is more than just the box, it’s comprised
of a steel and aluminium frame and 1,700 laser-cut sheets of corrugated
cardboard (each 10-mm (0.4-in) thick), complete interior, working doors,
functioning headlights and rolling wheels and thanks to electric motor mounted
on its steel and aluminum frame, the ‘origami car’ can even be driven.
The unique LEXUS ‘origami car’ will be revealed to the
public at the grand
designs live show in Birmingham from October 8, 2015.
Thumbs up to Lexus
