Deliveries will begin sometime in
2019.
Game on. We can’t wait for
September.
The
Mercedes-AMG hypercar, codenamed Project One, will be revealed at the Frankfurt
motor show in september, according to AMG boss Tobias Moers.
At
the recent Detroit motor show, Moers confirmed that the upcoming model will get
1000bhp, which is similar to the power generated by the Mercedes Formula 1 car
from which the powertrain is derived. That is much likely similar with the
likes of the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and the Aston Martin and Red
Bull-developed AM-RB 001. Mercedes-AMG says this will be “probably the
most fascinating two seater that will ever hit the road.”
The
hypercar would have an all-wheel-drive system with an electrically driven front
axle. This will enable the front wheels to be driven individually so torque can
be distributed selectively; a technology already seen in the SLS AMG Electric
Drive Called AMG Torque Dynamics.
The
powertrain will be mostly carryover from the company’s championship-winning
W07 Hybrid racer (the 1.6-liter engine) electric motors, and split-turbo
systems will all remain largely intact. According to Moers the only
change, will be bringing the engine down from 4,000 rpm to something more
civilized. Of course, in the production car the engine will still rev to
somewhere north of 10,000 rpm, according to Moers.
Deliveries
are expected to begin in 2019. But as for rumors there will be a second
version, Moers says we can expect “just one” variant.
